Johnny Depp Sues Former Lawyers For Malpractice

On Behalf of | Nov 3, 2017 | Legal Malpractice

Attorneys must fulfill at all times their professional responsibilities and serve as protectors of their client’s rights. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Some legal advocates, such as Johnny Depp’s former attorneys, don’t handle their occupation completely ethically. Defendants at his Hollywood firm, Bloom Hergott Diemer Rosenthal LaViolette Feldman Schenkman & Goodman, had engaged in dishonest misconduct to their financial advantage. This is detrimental to the attorney-client relationship and steals away trust. If your attorney has defrauded you, don’t hesitate to contact our talented California legal malpractice lawyers.

According to Mr. Depp’s current team of attorneys, economic harm includes more than $30M and there was no written contract. There are also other violations of California law. Depp had sued the firm in a $25M lawsuit earlier this year. The firm disagrees with the actor and they intend to defend their interests zealously.

Depp had also taken things to the court against his business managers back in January. He sued TMG for $25M. He believes the company had mishandled his finances. They had collected $28M in contingency fees without a written agreement. Also, loaning over $10M without his consent, which delayed Mr. Depp’s income taxes and now he is facing penalties and interests of nearly $6M.

The Management Group (TMG) had filed a complaint against the actor’s spending habits saying that’s the real cause of his declining finances. He had lost tens of millions of dollars over the last years. Some of his lavished spending habits include $75M on several properties and $30K a month on wine. In an attempt to avoid paying his debts to TMG, he alleged that family, friends, and employees had stolen money from him.

The Bloom Firm seems to have disappointed the actor. This is why he decided to file a lawsuit. They were his most trusted advisors in charge of safeguarding his finances and protecting his legal rights. But in order to protect himself, Depp had to take legal action against them. He had been with the Bloom Firm for over 18 years and they had failed to disclose misconduct with TMG. Apparently, the Bloom Firm was collecting fees from TMG without a contract, which violates state law. When reimbursing for expenses from the actor’s advisers, they did so without providing adequate documentation.

The Bloom firm also knew Depp’s home was going to be foreclosed on but they failed to warn the actor until the action started back in January. One of his former managers was in charge of the foreclosure. The firm seems disappointed that Mr. Depp issuing them. They disagree with the actor and his counsel and will defend the lawsuit. The Case is being filed in the Superior Court of the State of California.
