The Dangers of Plastic Surgery

On Behalf of | Sep 22, 2018 | Medical Malpractice

America is a country that values independent identities and encourages individuals to be their true selves. This includes the desire to alter our physical bodies. There are over 7000 plastic surgeons in the United States. These surgeons are responsible for millions of surgeries. These surgeries range from Botox to serious surgeries that alter our bodies drastically.

Typically, women are targeted in advertisements to change their bodies. From liposuction to breast augmentation, women are taught to never be satisfied with the way their body looks. But, women are not the only ones getting some physical alterations. Men get plastic surgery too. The most common plastic surgeries for men are eyelid rejuvenation, neck lift, rhinoplasty, chin augmentation, liposuction, and gynecomastia surgery. Regardless of social pressures, there are men and women who choose these surgeries because they know in their hearts that this is the best decision for their bodies. Wouldn’t you expect doctors to do their best to give you those results? Unfortunately, not all doctors.

When we go to visit these doctors, we assume that they are an expert. We assume that they are open and honest about their credentials. But, that is not always the case. Some doctors are not certified or their offices do not meet medical standards. This is when surgeries can go very wrong.

Even though we elect to have plastic surgery, it is just as risky and dangerous as having to have surgery due to illness. The complications are a little different. For example, Hematoma is a “pocket of blood that resembles a large, painful bruise”. It can require multiple operations to drain the blood. This kind of complication happens after breast augmentations or facelifts. We don’t plan for these complications, but your doctor should. Your doctor should inform of you all of your issues.

A man from Oklahoma City wanted to get a small change to his nose. Twenty-four operations later he does not have the nose he wanted and he now has problems breathing. Surgeries are always a risk, but sometimes the surgeon is at fault. It is hard to imagine this because we put so much faith and hope into our doctors, but they can also make mistakes.

Why Do You Need a Malpractice Attorney?

Medical malpractice lawyers in California at Licata & Yeremenko, A Professional Law Corporation, we understand that you only get one body. We know the pain and risk that goes into any kind of surgery, but there is a special attachment to surgeries that we elect to have instead of forced to have. You expected to have a safe surgery. You expected to recover normally with an outcome that was planned. However, things go wrong due to negligence or improper treatment.

Plastic surgeons should be certified, but they don’t have to be certified in that specific plastic surgery area in order to practice. This is misleading to you, the patient, and it leads to an error with potential catastrophic complications. Our medical malpractice lawyers will commit to a full investigation of the doctor and his office. We will do the hard work for you because we know that your life is on the line.
