If you are a Sherman Oaks parent, chances are good that your children have been begging to hit the town for some fun Halloween activities and trick-or-treating.
In fact, the Wicked Pumpkin Hollow is the spot for kids and tweens to see and be seen in their scariest garb. Located at 5421 Wortser Avenue in Sherman Oaks, they put on a three-hour show from 7 to 10 p.m. from Friday, Oct. 25, to Sunday, Oct. 27.
Among the creepy critters will be a seven-foot-tall pumpkin monster. There will also be intricately carved pumpkins to admire and plenty of Halloween staples to scare the little ones into screams.
The real danger lurks on every corner
Halloween can be one of the most fun holidays of the year for kids, but the holiday poses unique dangers that most others don’t.
For instance, kids often inherit their older siblings’ outgrown costumes. And while little sister Susie might want to wear her older sister’s Moana costume, unless it’s a sure fit, go with something new. Costumes should end at the ankle or above to prevent falls and trips.
Distracted drivers bear a big responsibility
Yes, parents should accompany young children on trick-or-treat routes and kids should learn to cross streets only at the crosswalks. But children have little impulse control when they get overexcited from a sugar rush.
Ultimately, it is incumbent upon the drivers to exercise a higher level of caution on nights the streets are filled with kids going door-to-door trick-or-treating.
What to do if an accident happens?
Parents should seek immediate medical treatment for their injured children. Later, once the child is stabilized, you may want to retain us as your counsel of record to represent your family in this matter.
