Dangerous Toys Of 2018

On Behalf of | Dec 28, 2018 | Product Liability

If you are cradling little ones this year then you may already be educated on some of the year’s worst and dangerous toys to give your children. Just because toys hit the shelves does not mean that they were created to not hurt your children. Sure, they may have past inspection tests but that doesn’t catch all the errors or accidents that can occur when playing with the toy. Like any product, there is always a risk when it is released to the public. You can test a product all day long, but there is no test greater than letting it out to the real public.

Children are our most vulnerable beings. As adults, we must do everything we can to protect them, but sometimes we are misled by those around us or trusted consumer products. Accidents happen but sometimes those accidents cause severe injury and at the very worst can lead to death. Most recent data from the Consumer Product Safety Commission estimated that there were 240,000 toy-related injuries in the United States in 2016 with a reported death toll of 35. Between January 2017 and October 2018, over 3.5 million toy units were recalled in the United States and Canada.

The increase in toy accidents is speculated to be connected with internet sales. When parents purchase toys off the internet they do not get the benefit of handling the toys. They do not get to touch the toys or see how they function before purchasing; thus, resulting in more injuries because once you gift the toy every parent knows how hard it is to get it back. Also, internet sales do not guarantee that you are buying from a safe seller. The seller may be selling you toys that have been recalled or toys that are known to be dangerous. The sellers have no responsibility to tell you and are only trying to make money.

Some of the toys that are most dangerous and can cause accidents for 2018 are the Black Panther Slash Claw, Stomp Rocket, Cutting Fruit, Power Rangers Ninja, Pull Along Dog, Minclara the Ballerina, Nerf Vortex VTX Praxis Blast, Zoo Jamz Xylophone, Cabbage Patch Kids Dance Time Doll, and Nickelodeon Nella Princess Knight Pillow Pets SleeptimeLites. These toys have the risk of causing facial injuries, blunt force trauma, and choking hazards. Almost all of these toys are sold at major retail stores or on their websites.
